Three years after having had Ί ³ ³Ί "Motherland" in the record shops it's Ί ³ ³Ί "Kingmaker" that offers eleven new melodic metal Ί ³ ³Ί songs that can immediately be recognized as Ί ³ ³Ί being from Ronnie Atkins and Co.. Atkins typical Ί ³ ³Ί vocals, Ken Hammer's riffs and well-done hooks Ί ³ ³Ί are belonging to the bands trademarks and they Ί ³ ³Ί are all coming back on the new output. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί "Kingmaker" is a continuation of the revitalized Ί ³ ³Ί band that had some big-sellers in the eighties, Ί ³ ³Ί followed by some tougher times. Since a few Ί ³ ³Ί years Pretty Maids is again working full-speed Ί ³ ³Ί ahead by releasing records that make a lot of Ί ³ ³Ί fun. The mixture of heaviness and melody is well Ί ³ ³Ί dosed, something that makes the band interesting Ί ³ ³Ί for a wider audience of metal fans. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί The new album starts bold. It's "When God Took a Ί ³ ³Ί Day Off" that begins with an intro reminding of Ί ³ ³Ί "Cold Killers" from "Red, Hot and Heavy". The Ί ³ ³Ί tune itself is a six minutes long power pack, Ί ³ ³Ί acting as an excellent way into this longplayer. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί The title track is next in line. Starting with a Ί ³ ³Ί powerful riff, the song comes with a mighty Ί ³ ³Ί punch - a well chosen name giver for this Ί ³ ³Ί record. In general I must say that Pretty Maids Ί ³ ³Ί releases all breaks, going straight forward with Ί ³ ³Ί a lot of heavy rockers. The grooving "Bull's Ί ³ ³Ί Eye", the slowly developing "Civilized Monster" Ί ³ ³Ί and the hammering "Sickening" are all real Ί ³ ³Ί highlights and 100% Pretty Maids, the latter Ί ³ ³Ί coming with an extremely forceful rhythm section Ί ³ ³Ί consisting out of Rene Shades (b) and Allan Ί ³ ³Ί Tschicaja on drums. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί The counterpart to these riff attacks is a power Ί ³ ³Ί ballad called "Last Beauty on Earth". Pretty Ί ³ ³Ί Maids can do these kind of songs since for one Ί ³ ³Ί or another reason they never sound bad, even Ί ³ ³Ί though they are pretty much mainstream. But Ί ³ ³Ί since there is enough Danish dynamite included Ί ³ ³Ί the song sounds good and is actually a 'must' Ί ³ ³Ί for a Pretty Maids album. Ί ³ ³Ί Ί ³ ³Ί "Kingmaker" is the highly anticipated new album Ί ³ ³Ί of Pretty Maids and it's a longplayer that will Ί ³ ³Ί be very well received by Pretty Maids fans and Ί ³ ³Ί metalheads with a passion for powerful melodic Ί ³ ³Ί metal.
