The S.O.S. Band (sometimes written SOS Band; abbreviation for Sounds Of Success) is an American R&B and electro-funk group who gained fame in the 1980s. The Atlanta, Georgia, band was started in 1977, when keyboardist / vocalist Jason Bryant, saxophonists Billy Ellis and Willie “Sonny” Killebrew, guitarist Bruno Speight, bassist John Alexander Simpson, drummer James Earl Jones III, and lead vocalist Mary Davis formed a group called Santa Monica that played at Atlanta nightclub the Regal Room.

Aimed squarely at the Dance floors (there are no ballads here), “On The Rise” gave the SOS Band the come back hit that the band needed desperately after the relative commercial disappointment of “Too” and “SOS Band 3”. The biggest hit off this album, the sexy and pulsating “Just Be Good To Me”, is a perfect slice of early 80’s R&B and became a sizable hit. Title track is another killer slice of funk. “If You Want My Love”, “Who’s Making Love” and “Steppin’ The Stones” are also solid R&B dance tracks that are aimed for the Dance floors and sound great when blasted loud from your car stereo when driving with the windows open.
