Davis says his blues music is inspired by the Southern speech of his grandmother. Charles M. Young summed up Davis's take on the blues writing in Playboy magazine: "Davis reminds you that the blues started as dance music. This is blues made for humming along, stomping your foot, feeling righteous in the face of oppression and expressing gratitude to your baby for greasing your skillet." Vielleicht erinnert er einen Hörer an Eric Bibb - aber Guy Davis ist kräftiger, rhythmischer und macht mehr Spaß. Selbst geschriebene Lieder über das Tulsa Massaker (God s gonna make things over), über Fernzüge ("16 coaches long"!), verschmutztes Trinkwasser ("if that water doesn't kill you, nothing will"). Toll instrumentiert, oft mit Banjo, abwechselungsreich. Und dass Guy Davis ne rauhe Stimme hat, muss man nicht erwähnen ;) Anspieltipp "I Thought I Heard The Devil Call My Name" ... auch ein klassisches Blues Thema.
