Shamall (Shamal, which loosely translates as "hot desert wind") features music which is a fusion of progressive rock, electronic, rock, pop, and classical. The project was founded by the German musician and producer Norbert Krueler in 1986. The first singles my dream and feeling like a stranger are categorized as Italo disco. After that Shamall's musical style changed. The album Journey to a Nightmare (1989) is the first of many releases in the style of electronic music.
The German rock magazine eclipsed specifies Shamall's music between Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons.

Die Musik l�sst sich Zeit, Songstrukturen sind eh egal. Stattdessen gibt es eine gro�e, wuchtige Wolkenschieberei, die immer das ganz gro�e Drama will - ein Breitwandfilm in Zen-Surround. Musik, wie man sie Ende des vergangen Jahrhunderts gerne mal in Planetarien zum gro�en Sternenhimmel spielte. Mit historischen Synthiesounds, die man so �hnlich in diesem Jahrhundert sonst nur noch bei Eloy h�rt. Dann und wann erfreuen ein harter Riff oder ein paar erdige Gitarrenlicks von Mehrtens
