Sie entwickelten sich von "einer dynamischen Funk/Party-Band zu einer populären Balladen-Gruppe" und standen zwischen 1974 und 1988 mit rund 30 Hits in den amerikanischen R&B-Charts. Mit Three Times a Lady (1978) und Still (1979) erreichten sie jeweils Platz 1 der Pop- und R&B-Charts. In Deutschland hatten sie mit dem Top-10-Erfolg Nightshift (1985) ihren größten Erfolg. Lionel Ritchie, der später Solo auch in Deutschland ein Superstar wurde, war Gründungsmitglied. Heroes is the eighth studio album by the Commodores, released in June 1980 by Motown Records. this album was mediocre at best. There were maybe two standout tracks on here, and the rest were hit or miss. The Commodores were definitely crossed all the way over by this album, and you can hear a big difference between this album and their 1977 self titled smash album.
