Formed in 2009 and rooted in Postpunk, Postrock, Artcore, Progressive Metal, Pop and classical music. Germany's The Hirsch Effekt have been honing their 'progressive metal' template for a while now, with Urian being their sixth full-length effort. To say the album is ambitious is not cliched nor overexaggerating, as they provide lengthy jaunts into an incredibly diverse set of musical regions The musicians blending shades of avant-garde, prog, jazz, and whichever noises the kitchen sink might make, and doing so with a deft touch. This one-two punch is typical of Urian’s equilibrium. 2054 and the title track follow with amped-up ferocity. The former builds its unhinged animosity with theatric synth notes in the style of ORBIT CULTURE while the latter interrupts a math rock assault to snatch listeners through a wormhole of electronic psychedelia. Then, after you’ve almost caught onto where Urian is drunkenly navigating itself, Stegodon injects a grungy, shoegaze number that would baffle even the broadest of minds. [color=#FF0000]1.
