Five Star (also 5 Star) are a black British pop group, formed in 1983 and comprising siblings Stedman, Lorraine, Denise, Doris and Delroy Pearson. Between 1985 and 1988, Five Star had four Top 20 albums and 15 Top 40 singles in the UK. The five-piece group of siblings from Romford were masterminded by their father and manager, Buster Pearson, in the style of The Jackson 5. He was a former recording artist and session musician who had worked with Wilson Pickett and had set up Tent Records Ltd in 1982.

"Silk & Steel" is Five Star's most successful CD in the UK. It hit #1, went multi-platinum and charted six singles, five of them reaching the top 10. The top 10 singles were "Can't Wait Another Minute (#7)," "Find the Time (#7)," "Rain Or Shine (#2)," "Stay Out of My Life (#9)," and "The Slightest Touch (#4)." The funny thing is "Silk & Steel" wasn't as successful in the US. "Can't Wait..." and the only non top 10 single in the UK, "If I Say Yes (#13 UK)," were the only hits in the US. I still struggle to see why the US audience didn't embrace "Silk & Steel" like their native UK audiences did because it's their most solid CD. The songs were strong and the group, especially Deniece sounded better than ever. Delroy even sings lead on the heartfelt ballad, "Please Don't Say Goodnight" and Doris takes the lead on the poppy dance cut "Don't You Know I Love It," which was also written by her. The most underrated song is the funky "Are You Man Enough." It was released as the seventh single, but in the US only. It reached #15 on the Billboard R&B singles chart based on radio airplay only.
