The band was formed in Stafford, England, in 1967 by vocalist and harmonica player Colin Cooper (1939-2008), guitarist and vocalist Pete Haycock (1951-2013), guitarist Derek Holt (b. 1949), bassist and keyboardist Richard Jones (b. 1949), drummer George Newsome (b. 1947), and keyboardist Arthur Wood (1929-2005).[ A veteran outfit as the '80s dawned, this British quartet can't seem to decide what to play: blues, soul, or pop. "I Love You," written by bassist Derek Holt, is an AM-ready charmer in the manner of Badfinger or Paul McCartney that points toward pop. But, by abandoning their blues roots, they sound like just another average white band. With a second smash hit single in the form of "I Love You", the band were continuing on with their more commercial direction, but there were still a few bluesy nods to their past in this otherwise very solid and enjoyable release. this would be Climax Blues Band's last really big seller, though they did continue to have some success throughout the '80s.
