Januar 1948), Bonnie (* 11. Juli 1950) und June (* 30. November 1953; get. 11. April 2006) gegründet wurde. Im Dezember 1972 stieg auch ihre älteste Schwester Ruth (* 19. März 1946) mit ein. Die Gruppe wurde zunächst als Nostalgie-Act mit 1940er-Jahre-Jazz, Dixieland und Big-Band-Musik berühmt, später auch mit Funk, R&B und Country. Zu ihren bekanntesten Hits zählen Fire (1978), He's so Shy (1980), Slow Hand (1981), Automatic, Jump (For My Love) und I am so Excited (1984). Their harmonies and sound seemed tame in the wake of the hip-hop, dancehall, and New Jack revolution. The songs were superbly performed and well produced and arranged, but just too sedate for the period. They had a couple of singles make the low end of the R&B charts, but while the album did decently, it was far from the heights they had enjoyed only three years earlier.
