März 1957 als Cheryl Lynn Smith in Los Angeles, Kalifornien[1]) ist eine US-amerikanische Disco- und Soul-Sängerin. Sie ist vor allen Dingen für den Disco-Klassiker Got to Be Real (1978) bekannt. Die Musikdatenbank Allmusic würdigt ihre „fesselnde Stimme und großartige Stimmlage“. Obwohl Lynn auch in den folgenden Jahrzehnten im Musikgeschäft aktiv blieb, veröffentlichte sie nur sporadisch Platten. Als Backgroundsängerin arbeitete sie unter anderen für Richard Marx (Alben Rush Street und Paid Vacation) sowie Luther Vandross (Your Secret Love). Preppie is the fifth studio album by American recording R&B artist Cheryl Lynn. Preppie includes the hit singles "Encore" (#1 R&B hit) and "This Time" (#49 R&B hit). It reached #8 on the R&B albums chart. The album was primarily produced by Lynn herself.
