Funk

Die US-amerikanische Musikgruppe Parliament, eine der Ikonen des P-Funk, wurde 1968 von George Clinton gegr�ndet. Die Band war neben der Band Funkadelic Clintons zweites gro�es Projekt und Clinton setzte zum Gro�teil auf dieselben Musiker - die doppelte Namensf�hrung beruhte vor allem auf vertragsrechtlichen Gr�nden im Zusammenhang mit seiner Plattenfirma.
Der Rolling Stone listete Parliament und Funkadelic auf Rang 58 der 100 gr��ten Musiker aller Zeiten, und Prince bezeichnete die beiden Songs Mothership Connection (Star Child) (1975) und Do That Stuff (1976) als zwei von 55 Songs, die ihn musikalisch inspiriert haben.

It was the band's second album. Kicking off with one of prime funk's purest distillations -- the outrageously great title track, with a perfect party chorus line and uncredited horns (presumably the Horny Horns were involved somehow) adding to the monster beat and bass -- Up for the Down Stroke finds Parliament in rude good health.  Peter Chase's whistles are downright delightful, goofy, and sweet all at once. Slightly more oddball is "All Your Goodies Are Gone," which has a bit more upfront bite and some downright strange lyrics, delivered with a stoned, breathless tone and backed by unearthly choir arrangements. Quirky, different, bluesy, sexy, funky, funny and I Just Got back the best whistle solo ever. Sure it's eclectic, yes it's downright strange, but throughout it grooves!
