Early experience singing gospel gave her a powerful but expressive voice likened to that of Aretha Franklin. She remains a popular live performer, mainly in southern states of the US, without having found the recording success of her earlier years. She sounds a lot like Aretha, but brings a soul and emotion to the music that is all her own. This album will appeal to a lot of people, from soul lovers, to people who love disco/house divas like Martha Wash. The songs and arrangements are mostly black gospel music with secular themes, with lots of southern soul elements.
