Laurie Anderson (* 5. Juni 1947 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, bei Chicago) ist eine US-amerikanische Performance-K�nstlerin und Musikerin. Einer breiteren �ffentlichkeit wurde sie 1981 mit ihrer Single O Superman bekannt, mit der sie Platz 2 der britischen Singlecharts erreichte.m Lauf ihrer Karriere arbeitete sie unter anderem mit Andy Kaufman, William S. Burroughs, Peter Gabriel, Jean Michel Jarre, John Cage, Philip Glass, Michel Waisvisz, Roma Baran und Lou Reed zusammen. Am 12. April 2008 heirateten Laurie Anderson und ihr langj�hriger Lebensgef�hrte Lou Reed, der mittlerweile verstorben ist.

Das Album "Amelia" handelt von der amerikanische Flugpionierin Amelia Earhart. Sie wollte als erste Frau die Welt umrunden und blieb verschollen. 
The musings are accompanied, for the most part, by an orchestra, conducted by Dennis Russell Davies and occasional emotive vocals from Anohni, one of Anderson’s friends and long-standing collaborators. Beneath the quietly dramatic strings exists a complex soundscape which illustrates just how ambitious and carefully crafted ‘Amelia’ truly is.
22 segments that ‘Amelia’ consists of, often creating jarring, industrially-heavy juxtapositions with the comparative smoothness of the orchestra. In her imagination, she suggests that Earhart only felt alive when she was able to hear the sound of the motor, hence its consistent presence here. An imagined musing by Earhart about the motor both opens and closes the suite.
