Anathema (griechisch ανάθεμα - ‚das Gottgeweihte‘, ‚die Verfluchung‘, ‚der Kirchenbann [das Anathema]‘) war eine britische Band, die sich vom atmosphärischen Death Doom und Gothic Metal zu einer sehr eigenen Form des melancholischen Alternative Rock entwickelt hat.
Gegründet wurde Anathema unter dem Namen Pagan Angel 1990 als Death-Doom-Band von Vincent und Danny Cavanagh zusammen mit dem Sänger Darren White, dem Bassisten Duncan Patterson und dem Schlagzeuger John Douglas in Liverpool. Im September 2020 verkündete die Band eine Pause auf unbestimmte Zeit.


Weather Systems is the ninth album by the British rock band Anathema. Terrorizer noted that the album had "a lot to live up to" following We're Here Because We're Here. The review noted that the songs on Weather Systems are "not instantaneous" as the previous album, but "its highlight is the way it decides to gently ebb from a dreamlike state in songs like 'The Beginning and the End' into the huge crescendo of 'The Lost Child' and elating release of 'Internal Landscapes'", and concluded that "Is it another masterpiece? Of course it is."
