Experimental Controversial Slovenian Post-Industrial band formed 1980 in Trbovlje, at the time Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Laibach is the German name for Slovenia's capital city Ljubljana. Initially one of the founders of Martial Industrial music, they changed their musical direction to a more Rock-, Pop- and Techno-/Dance-inspired crossover style in later years. This career-spanning show was set to capture various eras the band went through since the early 80s, but perhaps what makes it all the better is the fact that, at the same time, it sounds completely modern, as if everything was written in the 21st century. The first pat of the show is occupied by Revisited versions of Laibach's earliest compositions, recorded in 2010 but unreleased at the time of the performance. The live ambience, passion displayed and the conciseness of this set however help to vastly improve this material, to avoid descending into soft downtempo or to get tedious like it happened to the Revisited studio takes. In fact, I would go as far as to say that during this first part of the set Laibach managed to finally form martial industrial as a purely musical genre, with electro-industrial beats and textures serving to create the sounds of war arranged into a fully musical structure, as opposed to dark ambient with processed Nazi speeches that usually gets labelled martial industrial. The second part of the set is occupied by more pop-oriented material, mostly the highly stylized covers of popular tunes that brought Laibach their underground fame and reputation of provocateurs, as well as several original songs, including the main theme of Iron Sky. Besides, you don't have to suffer the incredibly lame guitar solo that was spoiling the studio version on Opus Dei. Overall, Monumental Retro-Avant-Garde is the best document of any Laibachian activity to explore. It would serve well for those who are looking to get familiar with the Slovenians, as well as would present to the old fans a great compilation of Laibach's best moments in a sonically updated form. 1-1 Siemens Vocals [sampled vocals] - Heintje Simons 5:40 1-2 Zmagoslavje Volje 6:04 1-3 Boji 5:12 1-4 Sredi Bojev 5:56 1-5 Mi Kujemo Bodočnost 7:51 1-6 Smrt Za Smrt 8:39 1-7 Brat Moj 5:23 1-8 Ti, Ki Izzivaš 6:12 1-9 Država 5:34 1-10 Leben - Tod 3:41 1-11 Le Privilège Des Morts 5:23 2-1 Across The Universe Written-By - The Beatles 4:51 2-2 B-Mashina 4:55 2-3 Under The Iron Sky 4:28 2-4 Tanz Mit Laibach 4:21 2-5 Alle Gegen Alle Written-By - Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft 4:01 2-6 Du Bist Unser 5:43 2-7 Warme Lederhaut 4:13 2-8 Love On The Beat Written-By - Serge Gainsbourg 6:31 2-9 Leben Heisst Leben Written-By - Opus 4:28 2-10 Geburt Einer Nation Written-By - Queen 4:26 2-11 Ballad Of A Thin Man Written-By - Bob Dylan 6:04mp3 320
