Funk An exuberant mid-'70s funk group, Graham Central Station. Former Sly & the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham renamed Hot Chocolate (not the British group) Graham Central Station after he moved from producing the group to playing with it. The group included Graham, guitarist David Vega, keyboardists Robert Sam and Hershall Kennedy, percussionist Patrice Banks, and drummer Willie Sparks. They utilized the identical funk cum rock and soul formula of Sly, though in not quite as imaginative a fashion. T They recorded as Graham Central Station from 1974 to 1977, then as Larry Graham & Graham Central Station in 1978, and during their final year were called Larry Graham with Graham Central Station. "Is It Love?", The Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel, is another "Funk Love Letter", that "Larry" just RIPS, with Super Funky Bass (of course!) and FANTASTIC Guitar work by "Gemi".... The other Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel in "Mr. Friend", if you listen closely, is a nice track about his "Spirituality", on a very very GROOVY track.... The last song and Crown Jewel, "Are You Happy?", is not only a great song, but a very good question.... Even though this particular album wasn't as "Funk Heavy" as the others, it still was "Funk" personified (even in the age of "Disco")....Once again, things would change in the future, but at least right here "Larry" and "G.C.S." were still in tact....
