Description:
[img(width=316 height=60)]links/images/splogo.jpg[/img] New Order are an English rock band formed in 1980 by vocalist and guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris. The band formed after the demise of Joy Division, following the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis; they were joined by Gillian Gilbert on keyboards later that year. New Order's integration of post-punk with electronic and dance music made them one of the most acclaimed and influential bands of the 1980s. New Order's best and most fully realized album that was not a collection of singles like Substance or earlier EPs. "Run" and "Low life" are perhaps the two best New Order songs. The searing lyrics stem from Bernard Sumner's breakup with his wife Susan and are the best written in the New Order era. Technique was the zenith in New Order. Opener "Fine Time" is an endlessly-fun listen (particularly the instrumental mix "Fine Line," with Sumner's Donna Summer impression), while "Run" is a call for some sort of sense in a confused world. "Mr. Disco" inflicts the feeling of longing for a mysterious friend; and only New Order could write a song like "Dream Attack" about the memory of an amazing time, backed with music to give the listener the same feeling.
